Here you’ll see a nerdy ramble about myself and my interests:
So yeah, I am an incoming sophomore in uni under BS Mathematics. It’s hard to explain to outsiders, but I show because it’s such an elegant and rich, yet simple field. Other sciences need fancy equipment like particle accelerators and telescopes. In math you can get far with pen and paper alone (though I sometimes feel jealous about the fancy tools other scientists use). Also, it’s probably the only field where you can be absolutely certain something is true (apart from programming, I guess). In other fields, sa, history, an entire body of “knowledge” can be overthrown by the discovery of several manuscripts. In math, you can easily be convinced something is true through the art of proof. It’s not a rigorous book by modern standards, but Euclid’s Elements should illustrate my point. If I’m not in Math, I would probably chose Physics or Theoretical Computer Science.
Well, isn’t it cool to be able to understand the inner clockwork of the universe?
I am also interested in how languages work. Actually, I was accepted in the BA Linguistics program of my university, but I declined the offer once I finally got a slot to BS Math, the program I was waitlisted.
I find it cool how different languages can express concepts in different ways. My native language for instance, Pilipino (or Tagalog) has verbs that don’t conjugate by tense, but by aspect and focus.
Right now, I have reached about B1 level German. I also studied Spanish and Latin, but I lost motivation thereafter.
